Paloma Herrera

Paloma Herrera-Racionero

Paloma Herrera-Racionero holds a Degree in Sociology and a PhD from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). An associate professor at the UPV and a researcher at the Research Institute for the Integrated Management of Coastal Areas (IGIC), her main research area is environmental sociology, particularly the socio-environmental sustainability of traditional fisheries. She researches on new forms of fishery co-management, fishery diversification models, and community-based social development and its social and political implications.

Lluís Miret Pastor

Lluís Miret Pastor holds a PhD in Business Organization, is an associate professor at the UPV, a researcher at the Research Institute for the Integrated Management of Coastal Areas (IGIC) and currently the director of the Universitat Politècnica de València’s Office of Languages. His areas of research include the blue economy, the European fisheries policy, certificates and labels on seafood products, and eco-innovation.

Roberto Cervello

Roberto Cervelló Royo

Roberto Cervelló Royo. With a PhD in Economics, he is an associate professor at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and the deputy director of research at the UPV’s Department of Economics and Social Sciences, which is linked to agri-food and natural resources economics. His main activity focuses on sustainable urban, regional and coastal development, heritage conservation, and the economic-financial, social and environmental performance of institutions and its socioeconomic impact.

Miguel Jover Cerdá

Miguel Jover Cerdá holds a PhD in Agricultural Engineering and is a full professor at the UPV’s Institute for Animal Science and Technology. He has been teaching and researching for 35 years in the field of aquaculture. He is the director of the Master in Aquaculture and of the online Master in Aquaculture Production, and the principal investigator of numerous research projects on the nutrition of aquaculture species.

Pau Muñoz Benavent

Pau Muñoz Benavent

Pau Muñoz Benavent holds a PhD in Automation, Robotics and Industrial Informatics from the UPV. He is a researcher in computer vision and deep learning technologies applied to the detection of individuals and size estimation in marine environments. He has participated in many Valencian, Spanish and European research projects, whose results have been published in high impact journals.

Meritxell Maimi

Meritxell Maimi

Meritxell Maimi holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences from the Universitat de València, and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Assessment and Monitoring of Marine and Coastal Ecosystems from the Universitat Politècnica de València. Currently, she is a senior technician at the Research Institute for the Integrated Management of Coastal Areas (IGIC). She is interested in research on marine ecosystems and the management of their resources, and in the use of environmental education as one of the main tools for scientific dissemination.

Andrea Márquez

Andrea Márquez Escamilla

Andrea Márquez Escamilla is an environmentalist specialized in environmental assessment and monitoring of marine and coastal ecosystems (UPV). She has recently started doing research work, having published a scientific article on generational change in fishing and participated in several congresses. She currently works as a senior technician for the IGIC. At the same time, she works as a journalist and is very involved in environmental volunteer and education programmes at the Valencian and European levels.

Javier Jareño

Javier Jareño Dorado

Javier Jareño Dorado is a Computer Engineer from the Universidad de Cádiz, specializing in computing. He is currently studying the Master’s Degree in Artificial Intelligence Research. His research interests include code optimization using evolutionary algorithms, code obfuscation, machine learning and image recognition.

Anna Garriga

Anna Garriga

Anna Garriga is an associate professor in the area of Fundamentals of Economic Analysis. She holds a PhD in Economics and Business Administration from the Universitat de Barcelona. Her main lines of research focus on the economics of tourism, municipal financing and the economics of fishing. In 2014, the Catalonia Government (Generalitat de Catalunya) awarded her a medal in recognition of her research in the fishing sector. Her long career in management positions is also remarkable.

Remedios Cabrera Castro

Remedios Cabrera Castro has a Degree in Marine Sciences, a Degree in Environmental Sciences, and a PhD from the Universidad de Cádiz (UCA). She is an associate professor at the UCA and a researcher at INMAR (University Institute of Marine Research). Her main activity is focused on fishing and on transfer to the fishing sector. She has been working on the fisheries of the South Atlantic coast, the dynamics of fish populations, the selectivity of fishing techniques and, more recently, on fishing discards.

Pedro L. Galindo

Pedro L. Galindo

Pedro L. Galindo is a full professor in the area of Computer Science and AI at the Universidad de Cádiz, and the head of the “Intelligent Computing Systems” research group. He has published more than 85 articles in international journals of impact on topics related to image processing and AI.

Jairo Castro

A biologist specializing in fisheries and aquaculture. A doctoral student in Industrial and Environmental Science and Technology at the Universidad de Huelva. His current lines of research are: (1) analysis of environment-resource relationships through statistical modelling, (2) citizen science for studying jellyfish, and (3) knowledge and technology transfer on aerial and aquatic vehicles for the cross-border development of the marine and fishing sciences.

Arnaldo Marín Atucha

An associate professor at the Department of Ecology of the Universidad de Murcia, he leads a research group focusing on the environmental impact of marine pollutants and their interaction with climate change. He has published numerous articles focusing on artisanal fishing, blue tourism, the environmental impact of marine aquaculture, eutrophication, climate change and the restoration of coastal ecosystems.

Antonio F. Skarmeta Gómez

He is a full professor at the Department of Information and Communications Engineering of the Universidad de Murcia. He is the author of more than 100 international publications and has been principal investigator in more than 15 European projects. His research focuses, among other topics, on decision optimization and analysis, intelligent cooperative systems, remote control and telematics, sensor processing and data fusion. He has participated in numerous projects on digitalization focusing on the marine and coastal environment, such as ThinkInAzul, B-Blue, Smart Marine Protected Areas and Watermed4.0.

Jesús E, Argente García

A researcher in a multidisciplinary group belonging to the Universidad de Murcia’s Department of Information and Communications Engineering, his main activity focuses on studying the new environmental governance paradigm in order to improve the management of marine resources in a context of blue economy, digitalization and global change.

Vicenç Parisi is an associate professor at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. A Telecommunication Engineer, he pursued his PhD in the UPC-CSIC joint programme in Marine Sciences.  He belongs to the SARTI research group, where he carries out research on the application of signal processing techniques for marine biological resources.
